Future of Espresso
Date
Summer 2024
Location
Starbucks Headquarters - Seattle, WA
Role
Concepts Engineering Intern
This experience allowed me to apply and expand my skills in human-centered design, user testing, cross-functional communication, and SolidWorks.
One of my key projects was developing a mixed-fidelity model of the next iteration of the Starbucks espresso machine, utilizing 3D printing to prototype and iterate. Collaborating with baristas, we conducted extensive user testing to identify essential aspects of form and function, refining both the user interface and experience.
Weekly cross-functional meetings with industrial designers and manufacturers gave me a deeper appreciation for the collaborative process required to create a product that not only meets user needs but also aligns with business and manufacturing objectives.
This experience reinforced the importance of feedback and iteration in product development. Listening directly to the baristas who use these machines every day provided invaluable insights into creating a product with meaningful, intentional impact. This experience allowed me to apply and expand my skills in human-centered design, user testing, cross-functional communication, and SolidWorks.
